POST-GRADUATION WORK PERMIT
Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is an open work permit that allows international graduates from qualifying programs in an eligible Canadian designated learning institution gain skilled work experience on completion of their study program. They can remain in Canada and work for a maximum of three years after graduation from school depending on the validity of the PGWP.
The validity of a PGWP depends on the duration of the study program, and it ranges from a year to a maximum validity of three years. Skilled experience gained under the PGWP status might qualify the international student for permanent residence, because this valuable work experience counts as an eligibility criterion for most economic immigration streams.
Additionally, possessing a Canadian education as evidenced by a Canadian certificate, diploma or degree bolsters an international graduate’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score in the Express Entry electronic application management system.
An international graduate is eligible to receive only one Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) in their lifetime.
A PGWP validity is between 8 months to 3 years.
An international student graduate can still apply for a PGWP from oversea, even after leaving Canada.
