Elementary or Primary School Education
This level of study is mandatory for all children aged 5 to 12 years of age. It starts at kindergarten and is completed at sixth / seventh grade (grade 6 / 7) depending on the province or territory.
This level of study is mandatory for all youths aged 13 to 18 years of age and remains a pre-requisite for post-secondary enrollment. It is an integral part of the study continuum and connects elementary education to post-secondary. It is a preparatory phase for college or university education, and typically starts from seventh or eighth grade. It is completed when the student graduates twelfth grade (grade 12).
Adult secondary education provides literacy skills and options to get a high school diploma to adults over 19 years of age without an elementary or secondary school education.
