The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is a category of permanent residence program for people with skilled work experience in Canada. CEC is specifically designed to grant a permanent resident status to temporary foreign workers and foreign graduates from post-secondary institutions with qualifying Canadian work experience and required language skills.
To apply for Canadian Experience Class (CEC), you must meet the minimum eligibility requirement outlined by Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Minimum Requirements
Work Experience
1) Qualifying work experience must be at least 12 months of skilled work experience in Canada gained in TEERs O, 1, 2 or 3 job categories.
2) Qualifying work experience can be in one or more of the TEER categories 0,1, 2, or 3
3) Skilled work experience must be gained by working in Canada legally with proper authorization to work
4) This 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada must be within the last three years prior to your application.
5) A minimum of 1-year full-time job at 30 hours per week for 12 months or equal amount of part-time work for 2 years at 15 hours per week for 24 months
7) Note that any hour(s) above the 30 hours per week set out does not count*
8) Note that skilled work experience gained as a full-time student, during Co-Op or as self-employment does not count towards the minimum requirement.
Language skills
1) Take approved language tests to assess reading, writing, speaking and listening abilities.
2) Meet the minimum language level set out as Canadian language benchmark (CLB) 7 for TEER 0 and TEER 1 and Canadian language benchmark (CLB) 5 for TEER 2 and TEER 3
3) The language test must be valid on the day you apply for permanent residence
4) Note that language tests are only valid for 2 years from the date of the test result.
Education
1) While the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) has no education requirement, you may want to improve your ranking in the Express Entry (EE) pool by receiving points for a certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian high school or post-secondary school.
2) You can receive points for completed foreign credential education and an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) report for immigration purposes
Ineligibility
You are not eligible for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) if:
1) You are a refugee claimant in Canada
2) You’re working without authorization
3) Your work experience was gained without legal authorization
Proof of Funds / Settlement Funds
You must show you have enough “settlement” funds to support yourself and your family / dependents when you arrive in Canada.
Exemption from Proof of Funds / Settlement Funds
You are exempted from proof of funds if:
1) You are currently able to legally work in Canada
2) Have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer.
Admissibility
If you are applying for permanent residence status under the CEC program:
1) You must be admissible into Canada.
2) You must also have no plans to stay in the province of Quebec
Province or Territory of Residence in Canada
1) You will choose your preferred province or territory of residence when you fill out your Express Entry profile online. When you enter Canada, you can plan to settle in your chosen province or territory, but it’s not mandatory you have to settle in that province or territory.
2) If a province or territory nominated you, you must settle in the province or territory that nominated you.
3) You must also plan to live outside the province of Quebec. If you plan to live in Quebec, you will have to explore the Quebec- Selected Skilled Workers Class, an immigration program unique to Quebec for selecting skilled workers.
